Four routes that work
Madrid, Toledo and Segovia
Base yourself in Madrid, then add one day in Toledo and one in Segovia. Keep at least three full days for the capital rather than treating it only as a transport hub.
Seville, Córdoba and Granada
Use Seville and Granada as the main bases, with Córdoba between them or as a focused day. Add Málaga or Ronda only when you have at least nine days.
Bilbao, San Sebastián and green Spain
Begin with the Basque cities for art and food, then move west only if you can give Asturias or Galicia several nights. Northern weather rewards flexibility.
Barcelona, Valencia and an island
Connect Barcelona and Valencia by rail, then choose one island rather than trying to collect several. Mallorca offers variety; Ibiza combines heritage and coves; Tenerife suits volcanic nature.
